About Us
The Plough Angling club was formed in 1987 as a sea fishing group by anglers who enjoyed the camaraderie of a club. Since then the group has grown into a multi-disciplined club covering most aspects of fishing.
Members enjoy the close friendship of the founding group and get together at the British Legion in Hanney each month to discuss various aspects of the club and angling in general.
The Plough Angling Club aims to promote angling in all its forms: Caring for the environment and its wildlife, educating anglers of all ages in order to improve their enjoyment of the sport, and having a good time fishing.
The club controls two waters:
- A stretch of the Thames at Newbridge, which has featured in the top end results of The Upper Thames Championships on more than one occasion.
- A private lake near West Hanney that has been stocked with a selection of species to please all our members.
The Plough Angling Club has a maximum membership limit of 120 anglers. Anyone wishing to join should contact the Chairman via email; if the maximum number has already been met, then new applicants will be added to a waiting list.
Permits are renewed annually in February (membership runs from the 1st April each year). If we exceed the upper limit of membership numbers, then a waiting list is operated. This is reviewed in April and applicants are invited to join at that time. Residents of East and West Hanney have priority on the waiting list.
Annual fees are £30.00 per year with an initial joining fee of £5.00 to cover additional expenses. If existing members do not rejoin by 31st March then the joining fee will be charged.
Junior membership is £5.00 a year (no joining fee).
