We’re pleased to report that the final phase of coir roll installation at Plough Pond is now complete, marking a significant milestone in the club’s ongoing habitat improvement work.
The latest work party saw the final 20 coir rolls installed around the island and along the near bank between pegs 3 through 5. A big thank you to Danny Dance, Jon Blackwell, Leslie Teale, Nick Ponting, Vince D’Souza, Jim Pike, Andy Earl, and Dave Whaley for their hard work and commitment in getting the job finished.
With this phase complete, the entire island has now been planted, along with previously bare patches between pegs 3 and 5. It’s especially encouraging to see that new roots are already shooting out from earlier installations, with some areas even beginning to flower. The PoC rolls are also looking excellent, with fresh growth now extending out into the margins.
A thank you also goes to John for keeping the area tidy with some expertly cut grass, helping to keep the banks looking their best.
All unused ropes and wire barriers have now been removed and stored for next winter, following their proven success during the project.
We’d also like to thank Danny for donating additional Iris plants from his own pond. Previous donations are already thriving and multiplying, and these new additions will no doubt create a fantastic display when they come into full flower.
The team worked hard through to 2:30 in the afternoon, pausing only briefly to refuel on the ever-popular bacon butties and cake before pushing on to complete the final stages.
It’s not just the banks that are showing improvement—early season fishing has also been very encouraging, with multiple catches of bream, carp, roach, and perch already being reported.
All in all, a fantastic effort from everyone involved, and a great start to the season at Plough Pond.
