Actions from Previous Meeting

  • The Christmas Carvery Meal will take place on Sunday 7th December 2025 at the RBL Sports & Social Club, Hanney at 15:00. Details will be sent by email.
  • A Work Party at Plough Pond will take place on Saturday 25th October 2025, starting at 09:00. The work will focus on installing more cormorant tapes and strimming the island.

Club Welfare Officer’s Report

  • Our Club Welfare Officer is Richard Stone (mob. 07551 031857; rstone0311@yahoo.com.)
  • The Club’s welfare policy is available on our website (www.ploughangling.org.uk/safeguarding/)
  • No issues were reported this past month.
  • Refresher training is currently being offered by the Angling Trust.

Sea Secretary’s Report

  • The scheduled trip, sailing from Weymouth on 19th October 2025, was cancelled owing to bad weather.
  • Chris will endeavour to book a sailing for January 2026.
  • Contact Chris Judkins if you would like to be involved in the Sea Fishing Group.

Match Secretary’s Report

  • One match has been fished since the last meeting. Full results are published on our website.
  • The seventh leg of the Plough Angler of the Year Trophy was fished at Newbridge on Sunday 12th October, with 13 Members attending. The match was won by Nick Ponting with 9lb 4oz, from the fancied Peg 6. In second place was Garry Cramp with 7lb 8oz from Peg 13, and in third place was Danny Dance with 6lb 4oz from the very fancied Peg 4.
  • The next match is the eighth leg of the PAY trophy at Newbridge on Sunday 26th October. The draw will take place at 07:00, fish 08:15 – 13:15. Please note that the clocks change to GMT.
  • The Match Fund currently stands at £295.00.

Vice Chairman’s Report

Plough Pond Update: Feeding is continuing. The feeding pattern will be modified for the colder months to twice/week.

Predation: Two cormorants were spotted on the lake on 23-September and another on 21-October. One of the stocked bream was found killed.

WhatsApp Group: A new WhatsApp group has been created for the Club. This will enable quicker and more efficient communication regarding catches, match updates, and any other matters of interest. If you would like to join, please contact the Vice Chairman at the number shown on your permit.

Chairman’s Report

  • The Club’s proposed application for a grant from the Angling Improvement Fund (Predation Prevention) was submitted electronically on 17th September 2025. If successful, the project would start on 1st March 2026 and will follow our Plough Pond Fishery Development Plan, headed by Terry Warncken. According to the online portal, our application is currently ‘under consideration’.
  • Water quality testing at Newbridge is continuing as part of our role in the national study of rivers by the Angling Trust (WQMN). The next testing will be carried out on 26-Oct.
  • Water quality testing at Plough Pond will be carried out on 25-Oct.
  • Club membership to date: 86 Members (4 Sea only; 7 Juniors; 75 Full Members).

New Actions

  • The 2026 Match Calendar will be available next month. Sea Fishing dates for 2026 have been received. Clashes with Sea fishing and W&G will be avoided wherever possible. W&G will be contacted to reinstate the Team Matches in 2026.
  • The landowner is to be informed beforehand of any work to be carried out during our close season at Plough Pond.
  • 72 adult crayfish have been removed from Plough Pond this season. The crayfish traps have now been removed.
  • A trophy for the largest fish caught in our matches will be identified by Danny. This will be paid for from the Match Fund (£100 to £150 budget).
  • The lawnmower at Plough Pond will be re-sited for the winter months at Nick’s farm.

The meeting ended at 8:45pm.

The next meeting will take place at the RBL Sports & Social Club in Hanney at 19:30 on Tuesday 18th November 2025. All welcome.
