March 2026 – Club Volunteers Make Fantastic Progress at Plough Pond

A big thank you goes out to everyone who took part in the recent Plough Pond Work Party, which proved to be a very productive and enjoyable day.

Special thanks to Danny Dance, Jon Blackwell, Leslie Teale, Nick Ponting, Barry Sutton, Vince D’Souza, Richard Stone, Jim Pike, Sonny, and Tim Warncken for their hard work and effort throughout the day.

We would also like to thank Stephanie and Tina Warncken, who kindly kept the team well supplied with bacon butties, cakes, and orange squash, which were very much appreciated and helped keep everyone going.

During the work party, 20 coir rolls were expertly installed around the island, under the supervision and guidance of Vice Chairman Nick Ponting. Thanks to the team’s efforts, the rolls went even further than expected, managing to cover around three-quarters of the island shoreline.

The rolls were carefully shipped across the pond while teams worked on cutting new stakes and supporting rods to secure them in place. It was a great example of teamwork, with everyone pitching in to make the job run smoothly.

Fortunately, the weather stayed dry, allowing the work to continue uninterrupted, and a bonfire was also maintained throughout the day to help clear unusable wood from the area.

The improvements made will benefit both the fishery and the surrounding habitat, and it’s great to see members coming together to support the club and its waters.

Another Work Party will be arranged in the coming months, when the next batch of 20 coir rolls will be installed to continue the work around the island.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
