A huge thank you to Danny Dance, Jon Blackwell, Leslie Teal, Nick Ponting, Barry Sutton, and Vince D’Souza for all their efforts, hard work, time, and tools during this month’s work party at Plough Pond.
The pond island was strimmed and cleared of all overhanging branches, and a bonfire was held to help clear debris from the island. Protective tapes have also been put up around the pond to deter cormorants.
The pond is now closed until the New Year, giving the area a chance to rest and recover.
Special thanks go to Nick Ponting for developing and installing his excellent sunken wire barriers – they look fantastic and will no doubt prove very effective.
The dip in the path along the arm stretch of the pond has been filled in, improving access and safety. The mower has also been taken away for winter storage.
We’d also like to extend a big thank you to Toby from TG Tree Services for cutting down all the dead trees from the island and dealing with other fallen and unsafe trees along the surrounding pond path.
The planted coir rolls continue to grow well and should look even better next year as they mature and help strengthen the pond margins.
And finally, Danny even had time for a little spot of fishing – managing to catch one of the new elusive crucian carp!
We encourage all club members to attend future work parties — no matter how much time or effort you can give, every little helps and is greatly appreciated. Together, we can continue to make Plough Pond a place we can all be proud of.
